Both young and old will enjoy a trip to one of the most popular museums in Orlando. Located just outside of downtown. It’s one of a few Orlando museums in Loch Haven Park.
There’s a parking garage that you can park at for $5.00 and it leads right into the Orlando Science Center.

I like to park in the parking lot of the
Orlando Museum of Art
which is located right next to the Orlando Shakespeare Theater. The parking there is free and it’s only a short walk to the Science Center. While you’re there you might as well check one of these two other Orlando museums.
Once you enter you’ll see a world of fun and entertaining things to do. Four levels of exhibits and games rounds out the Orlando Science Center.
The exhibits change from time to time making it a fun attraction to visit again and again. It’s a nice alternative to other Orlando, Florida attractions.
*It’s up to you how much time you want to spend here. You can make a day of it by catching all the shows and activities or you can breeze through in about an hour.*
The last time my husband Chris and I went we saw a variety of different things. By far our favorite thing to do was the sound waves and nature forces exhibit.
Like a simulated tornado. Push the button on the machine and it formulates a twister! Plus there was a machine that simulated a hurricane. Stand inside and feel winds up to 80 mph.
As a native Floridian I’ve lived through a few of these storms so I wasn’t surprised. But for those of you coming from place that don’t have such natural wonders you’re sure to enjoy this.
Another fun thing to do was to power a small city. With a ferris wheel, train and town. There were power stations that you used to answer questions about hydrogen and how it’s used to produce electricity.
After you listen to a small explanation you have the opportunity to answer questions for points. Take the points you earn and put it towards powering this little city. It was fun and educational!
I got to light up the ferris wheel. It was instant gratification from all my hard work of answering questions. It took a lot of points to power that little town. Then again I guess that was the lesson.
Something that the Orlando Science Center offered that other Orlando museums don’t is baby alligators, turtles, and fish in their little pond one the first floor.
There’s a tree in the middle of the structure that leads to all these great creatures. Watching them swim around in complete harmony was very relaxing.
Throughout the day they offer interactive fun. Like while we were there they pulled one of the baby alligators out of the little pond so people could see it up close.
I wasn’t able to snap a good up close alligator picture. But I was able to get one of the alligators swimming and really looking like he was enjoying himself.

There’s also simulated video games that the kids and kids at heart are sure to love. Like an airplane simulation and a racetrack video game like no other.
Something that sets this place apart from other Orlando museums is its CineDome Theater. This Theater is a planetarium, as well as, the largest movie screen I’ve ever seen. We saw a movie of the Amazon. It was so amazing!
Everything was so life like and life sized. Be careful if you get motion sickness because you may find yourself looking from side to side to take it all in.
It helped for me to lay my head on Chris’s shoulder. Maybe because I was watching sideways. In any event the theater is amazing and definitely an experience.
The shows in the CineDome are free. Just make sure to get your tickets whe you pay to get into the Orlando Science Center.
There are a few things that don’t change at the Orlando Science Center like the kiddie play area. It has a ton of fun things for the younger kids to do. Like work on a plastic car. With real mechanic sounds!
The Orlando Science Center is good for children but I would recommend that they be old enough to understand the exhibits and be able to take in the education that is trying to be taught.
There’s also things like spiders, frogs, snakes, bees, saltwater fish and other reptiles on display all year round.
One thing that makes this one of the best Orlando museums is that the exhibits are interactive. In the dinosaur area they have a place where you can discover your own dinosaur bones. Plus for only a quarter one of the prehistoric birds will talk to you. And there’s little films that tell you about the dinosaurs and their habitats. This is one of the museums in Orlando that offers special events. You could get married here or celebrate your birthday! They also have other events that go on during the year like Laser Light shows and summer camps for the kids. Check out their website for details on that. There’s a little café if you find your hungry. It has plenty of snacks for the kiddies. This part of the museum closes at 4pm. Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Sunday from 9pm-5pm are the hours for the Orlando Science Center. Wednesdays they close for exhibit updates and maintenance. Admission is $17.00 for adults and $12.00 for kids from 3-11 and free for the little ones younger than 2. The Orlando Science Center is fun for the whole family. Check it out for a unique twist on the normal Orlando Florida attractions!
