Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is fine dining in Orlando at its best! Although it's upscale it's still warm and inviting.

Out and about with a few friends of mine trying to decide where to eat dinner. We settled on Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Although I’m not sure who Ruth or Chris is (unless you’re talking about my husband) the steakhouse part has got it right.

When you walk into this restaurant in Orlando, Florida you know that you’re in for a treat. This’s fine dining in Orlando right down to the man wiping bread crumbs off my table.

We were greeted promptly by a bubbly hostess that asked us our name and then quickly showed us to our table. We were sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant so it really allowed me to take in the whole place.

The dining room had a relaxing ambiance. With dim lighting and soft chatter I could see how Ruth's Chris Steakhouse would be a very romantic place to dine. Too bad I was with three women and not my husband!

Our server came over to our table and got us started with drinks. There’s an extensive wine list (but expensive) as well as some very interesting drink options. With most drinks starting at $10.00 I was obliged to stick with water.

He asked if all of us had visited Ruth's Chris Steakhouse before. I told him I was a virgin (wink wink.)

He started to tell me that all of their fine steaks are served on a 500 degree plate (most of the meals came out sizzling hot so be mindful of that when you go to touch the plate.)

*One tip I picked up for you steak lovers. Don’t cut the steak when it first arrives. Wait a few minutes so it can get nice and juicy. The plates are still hot so it cooks it a bit more.

If you’re concerned with over cooking order your steak one degree lighter than normal. For example if you usually get medium well ask for medium.*

After looking over the menu for a few moments I quickly realized that Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is a wee bit out of my normal price range. Most meals began at $15.00 and only went upwards from there. Although, they do offer some special meals at this fine dining restaurant in Orlando.

The specials included a choice of steak, appetizer, soup and dessert. Depending on which steak you choose determines the price. Those meals started at $35.00.

My two friends decided to share one of these meals. Once they brought it out it was quickly determined that one meal for two people was plenty.

My other dining companion (Janet) and I decided we too would share. So we got a bowl of lobster bisque soup (for me) a delicious looking salad (for her) and we shared two appetizers.

An order of shrimp and an order of stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were to die for. Stuffed full of yummy goodness and smothered in even yummier goodness!

If you’re not a huge butter fan you may want to stay away from items like the steak and lobster bisque. Those items pretty much came drowning in it.

The lobster bisque was very (very) buttery so I had it exchanged for the crab and corn chowder which was much more to my liking.

The shrimp was really good. Janet really loved the sauce that came on them. She also raved about the mushrooms. The salad that was presented to her looked great and she said it tasted just as good.

Of course we decided to share dessert too. A wonderful (huge) apple tart served warm with cold ice cream. It was so good and big that all us girls were able to have some. Have you ever seen anything more beautiful?

All dessert and sides are shareable. They are 7-12 dollars a piece but if there are three to four people sharing them it isn’t that much.

Once the bill arrived we were happy to see that it was only a little over $100.00. Keep in mind that’s with all of us sharing meals and appetizers. So it is possible to enjoy a fine dining atmosphere and to still get your fill without breaking the bank.

We went at a slow time when everything was quiet. Except us that is. We had a great time laughing and talking. I’m sure some of the other diners would have liked us to quiet down. Because this’s one of those Orlando Florida restaurants that are intended to be quite and romantic. But aren’t always.

There was a table behind us that had children at it. So I guess you could bring them too. I don’t really see Ruth's Chris Steakhouse as a kid friendly place though. I view it more as a nice evening out for a couple. Or maybe a business meeting.

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is a special occasions place. Factor spending $125 per person. But that would be drinks, appetizers, desserts, gratuities. You know, the works.

Otherwise if you want to try it out but don’t want to spend a fortune, just do what my friends and I do....share!

It’s a bit more upscale so if you want to fit in and feel at home you should dress up. For the money you’ll be spending it would be nice to feel good about what you’re wearing.

This’s not a restaurant in Orlando that you should stop at when you’re hot and tired from being at the parks all day. This is a restaurant that you'll want to be relaxed and showered and ready to enjoy.

Service is slow but I think that’s how it’s intended. It’s relaxed and everything is served in courses. Everything comes beautifully presented. The presentation alone makes you feel like VIP.

We actually had two people taking care of us. Our server that we talked to and another gentleman that refilled our drinks, took our plates and wiped crumbs from our table. Rememeber that when you're tipping because it's most likely split.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse has a separate bar area that even offers its own menu! So if you don’t have money for the whole four course meal you could always just sit at the bar.

On our way out I snapped a photo. The bar was very inviting with candles lining the walls. I think I would have felt more at home there. Oh well I guess I’ll just have to take Chris and sit in the bar next time.

If you go on a busy night consider valet. If you’re going to get all dressed up you might as well make a go of it.

If you’re looking for a casual upscale dining experience in Orlando, Florida Ruth's Chris Steakhouse would definitely hit the mark. With good food, nice service and fun company it’ll be a place you'll remember!
