Sonny's Barbeque

Website (opens a new page)

sonny barbeque

Sonny's barbeque is a family favorite. My Aunt Linda thinks it’s one of the best restaurants in Orlando Florida.

She goes there all the time and has even made friends with one of the waitress.

This is one of the restaurants in Orlando Florida I can remember frequenting when I was younger.

There used to be one right around the corner from my house so we'd go there quite often for all you can eat barbeque chicken!

table at sonnys barbeque This restaurant in Orlando,Florida has reasonable prices with huge portions. Most meals sell for less than $12.00. And if you hit them before dinner time you can get a meal for under six bucks! That sure beats fast food.

With an assortment of bbq meat including beef, sliced pork, pulled pork, ribs and chicken there’s something for everyone. The meat is served plain so you can chose which barbeque sauce suits you best.

There's bottles of sauce found on each table including Sonnys sweet sauce (my personal favorite, I’ll even dip my fries in it) sizzling sweet, mild bbq sauce, smokin bbq and mustard sauce.

If you find a sauce you love you can buy it at the restaurant or order it on-line. I have a large bottle that I buy from a wholesale club in my fridge right now!! The decor is southern with wagon wheel chandeliers and wood everywhere. That gives it a very homey relaxed feel.

Booths are large and can accommodate up to six adults. Plus they have bigger tables to accommodate bigger parties.

If you have a vegetarian in the family the only option for them will be the salad bar (and maybe a side of cornbread or garlic bread). The salad is all you can eat and can be added to any meal for a few bucks or ordered on its own.

salad bar at sonnys barbeque The bar is complete with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Plus pasta salad, cole slaw, potato salad and carrot salad.

Desserts are also on the bar and include jell-O, banana pudding, and homemade bread pudding!

They look down on sharing (as do most of the Orlando Florida restaurants that offer all you can eat) although I always give my mom some of the bread pudding. Shhhh don’t tell ;)

*The meat is the reason you should visit Sonny's Barbeque. Prepared in a hardwood smoker creating tender and smoky flavor.*

The ribs are a top choice for my husband. I always go with the chicken. Tender and delicious smothered in sonny sweet sauce. Most restaurants in Orlando, Florida have their high times. If you go during a busier time you may run into a longer wait.

Usually the service is fast and friendly so try avoiding lunch time 12pm-1pm. Early birds 4pm-5pm and dinner rush 7pm-9pm.

If you do hit a busy time consider having a salad to hold you over. Or you can order a drink to fill in the empty space.

They serve all drinks in large and I mean LARGE plastic tumblers. Especially good if your server takes time to get back to you.

sonnys barbeque big deal You can also get food To Go food. Maybe you just wanna enjoy the tender sweet meat in private. Where you can get barbeque sauce all over your face without any funny stares from other tables. Hey I'm not here to judge :)

Sonny's Barbeque was founded in 1968 by Floyd “Sonny” Tillman and his wife Lucille. The first restaurant was opened in Gainesville Florida.

Most Sonny's restaurants are still located in Florida. Although there are others scattered throughout the southeast including Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Georgia and Louisiana.

Now in 2010 there are over 150 Sonny's barbeque restaurants.

The management has changed hands but it still has a fun, friendly atmosphere.

So if it's some good southern BBQ with a relaxed family atmosphere that you're looking for, Sonny's Barbeque is the place!! Enjoy :)
